Buddha Bar is a Parisian  bar and restaurant, located in Boissy-d'Anglas street, in the 8th district of Paris, famous for its atmosphere. The franchise has expanded with similarly themed Buddha Bar venues in Greenwich Village, New York, Beirut, Lebanon, Dubai, UAE, Kiev, Ukraine and London[1], among others. A new venue is scheduled to open in the District of Columbia in 2010.
The Buddha Bar music series is a compilation of lounge, chill out music and world music, released by George V Records, and is similar to other music venues productions from Cafe Del Mar and Hôtel Costes. The series was created by DJ and Buddha Bar founder Claude Challe who compiled and produced the first two albums. The series has continued with different DJs, including DJ Ravin, Sam Popat, and David Visan. The Buddha Bar has also released "Buddha Bar Nature", composed and produced by Arno Elias, the composer of "Amor Amor" from Buddha Bar 2. This included a DVD of nature footage directed by Allain Bougrain-Dubourg.

buddha-bar Story

Since its opening, the Buddha Bar created by Raymond Visan, has become
the world's happening place for Asian sounds and flavours.

Located just round the corner from Place Concorde in Paris, the Buddha
Bar contains a towering statue of Buddha, the original of which can be
found in the Guimet Museum. Here, Buddha sits impressively over this
palace-like-setting, illuminating the hearts and souls of passers by who dine
beneath him. This sub lunar haven harmonises east-west delicacies, indo-
Portuguese architecture and sublime music that envelops the air and reaches
out beyond the temple high ceiling.

This compilation has been erected to the zenith by David Visan who having
dug deep into his soul and reached out the limits of his inspiration, has
assembled the quintessential musical voyage around the world. It is filled
with rare gems and previously unreleased songs to transport the listener to
dizzy heights.

In 2003, the doors of the Buddha Bar will open in New York and Milan so
that this dream-like-temple can be experienced by civilisations apart.

  1. ALBUM REVIEW: Buddha-Bar II [By Claude Challe]

Posted by Andrew M. Schirmer on 24th Jan 2010

Having become somewhat a adept of downtempo electronica, I approved out Claude Challe's abundant acclaimed "Buddha Bar" series. Lured by the affiance of beatific chill-out music and corrupt packaging (all right, I'm a accoutrement for acceptable packaging), I agilely plunked down forty bucks for "Buddha Bar 2." The legions of 5 brilliant reviews actuality on Amazon assured me and my -to-be abandoned wallet that my acquirement had been a astute one. The anthology arrived, and I rushed home. I angry down the lights, lit a spliff, and laid down; my aerial agilely anticipating downtempo bliss...

    Was I anytime disappointed.

Halfway through the fifth clue (Deepak Chopra's "Desire"), it became credible that beatific downtempo is not Claude Challe's forte. "World muzak," however, is. You could absolutely cut the affectation in this music with a knife. I afresh apprehend an account with Monsieur Challe, and was afraid at the man's pretentiousness. I'm sorry, but it doesn't absolutely yield a rocket scientist to mix records.

"Buddha Bar" is breach into two discs, a "dinner" disc and a "party" disc. Disc one is a slow, occasionally banausic adventure through India, Arabia, and Latin America. The alone highlight for me was De-Phazz's bold "Mambo Craze." The additional disc is a appropriate amoebic abode set, with a few acceptable advance like dZihan & Kamien's "After," and Suba's "Felicidade." But unfortunately, so abundant of this music avalanche into the "muzak" category. How, you ask? Why?

Don't get me wrong, I like apple music. The apple is abounding of absurd sounds, and I accomplish a point of gluttonous out the best. This is not the amazing Cuban "son" and "bolero" you'll apprehend performed by the Septeto Nacional De Cuba. Nor is it the animal bossa you'll acquisition in music by Jobim and Baden Powell. Nor does it even appear abutting to the admirable Indian music you can acquisition in those bend aroma stores. Rather, the music on "Buddha Bar 2" takes elements from [the music] and puts it through the abrasion apparatus a few times; expunging the raw and able capacity and creating something smooth, banal and generic.

In abundant the aforementioned way the Tiki Bars of old bastardised Pacific Islander/East Asian culture, "Buddha Bar" succeeds in demography elements from "exotic" cultures (Arabia, India, Latin America) in an accomplishment to extrinsicly actualize a new form. Please don't misunderstand; eclecticism is not a bad thing. "Buddha Bar" is not eclecticism, but rather an attack to adjure up something pseudo-mystical, to abash and astonish the listener. Rather than aural like something admirable and eclectic, "Buddha Bar 2" comes off aural bank and conjured. Judging from reviews and talking with friends, the cuisine at Buddha Bar has the aforementioned problem.

"Buddha Bar 2" does accept one decidedly accomplished use. I begin disc one espcially nice for authoritative adulation to. The music does not crave any attention, and fits able-bodied in the background.

P.S. Apologetic about the British slang. I couldn't resist.

  2. BUDDHA BAR WIKIPEDIA EN ESPAÑOL

Posted by Wikipedia on 21st Jan 2010
